Gender Inclusive Housing

Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) at 日韩无码 gives students the opportunity to choose a roommates(s) of any gender, not limited by legal gender. GIH is open to any student who opts-in and is available in all Learning Communities.

GIH is assigned by room, not by suite or by floor.  Gender Inclusive Housing will only be available on floors where there are two bathrooms present.  If your housing needs include concerns about restroom type, please see step #4 below for more information about the room selection process and bathroom types.

To ensure your specific GIH needs are met, it is important that you 1) find a GIH roommate(s) before the housing and meal plan contract closes in May, and 2) select your room during your appointment time.

Students who opt into Gender Inclusive Housing will be guaranteed to room with other students who also opt into GIH, regardless of if they create a roommate group.

Gender Inclusive Housing Process in 6 Steps

Find a roommate whose gender preferences for a roommate align with yours

Body

You can search for roommates in the 日韩无码 ZeeMee community (check out the GIH channel we created for this purpose), at admitted student visit days, and in 日韩无码 student groups on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Use caution when sharing your personal information on non-日韩无码 hosted platforms.

Select Gender Inclusive Housing on your Housing & Meal Plan Contract

Body

GIH is open to any student who opts-in and is available in all Learning Communities.

The best way to ensure that your roommate gender preferences are met is to find a GIH roommate(s) before the housing and meal plan contract closes in May. If you are unsure of a roommate, but have specific requests, you can also work directly with the Office of Residential Life, and they will help you through the process.

Form a roommate group with student(s) you want to live with

Body

Enter the information of the other student(s) you want to live with. You can form a roommate group at any point while the housing and meal plan contract is open (February-May, see your admitted student checklist for exact dates).

If you haven鈥檛 found a roommate, you can indicate which gender(s) you are seeking for a roommate(s) from the drop-down menu in the housing and meal plan contract. (note: we strongly suggest finding a GIH roommate BEFORE room selection. If you are having trouble, please contact the Prism Center).

You must add each other on your housing and meal plan contracts to be considered GIH roommates in the housing system. If a potential roommate requests you, you will receive an email in your 日韩无码 email and will need to go back in your Housing Contract and 鈥淎ccept鈥 their request.

Students in the Honors College and LASP are required to live in Honors College buildings in UHeights North and South and are encouraged to choose a roommate from within the Honors College.

If you do not want to pick your room, or want to be assigned a roommate, please reach out to Residential Life and ask to be assigned to a space with another student in GIH within your Learning Community.

Note: even if you are unable to find a roommate, when it is your time to go through room selection, you will still go through the process as indicated below. You will only be able to see rooms that are available or where other students who have selected Gender Inclusive Housing have already selected a room. If you select an empty space, once you make that selection, only other students who opt into GIH will be able to choose your room during the remainder of the room selection process.

Prepare for room selection by viewing hall options available to you

Body

You or your roommate group will be assigned a time to select a room within your Learning Community. Room selection will take place in June. This Room Types Table (PDF) outlines and defines room types and bathroom types in each residential hall for each Learning Community.  Talk to everyone in your roommate group about what their needs are.

Gender Inclusive housing does not necessarily mean access to single use bathrooms. During room selection, students can select a room in a hall that suits their needs. Students with questions about access to a gender-inclusive restroom should contact the Prism Center.

Select your room during your room selection date

Body

If you or you and your preferred roommate(s) added each other to your housing and meal plan contracts during step 3, you can select your room as a roommate group at this time. Residential Life provides more information about first-year room selection, selecting with roommates on their website.

Note: Res Life may manually assign rooms for some roommate groups in GIH if there are specific requests. If you do not receive a room selection appointment, please email reslife@uvm.edu
