BIO

Dr. Laura Hill is a first-generation college student and Senior Lecturer in the Plant Biology and Biological Sciences programs at 日韩无码. Her classes include large-enrollment and upper-level undergraduate courses in plant biology (PBIO) and biological sciences (BCOR) and includes several sustainability (SU) and service-learning (SL) courses in the life sciences.

Dr. Hill developed an series of experiential courses in PBIO where students work on local projects with community partners to enhance nature-based climate solutions in the greater Burlington area. These solutions will allow us better adapt to and mitigate the effects of global change and help students discover active hope as we collectively face global climate change and biodiversity loss.

Dr. Hill also developed an interdisciplinary learning community for contemplative pedagogy in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning. In the classroom, Hill uses a variety of contemplative practices that help connect students to their lived, embodied experience in their unique learning processes. She also uses classroom feedback coupled with peer instruction, Just-in-Time teaching pedagogy to enhance classroom feedback, community, and interaction. She has also developed a variety of formative assessments to enhance critical thinking.

Dr. Hill regularly works with graduate teaching assistants and mentors undergraduate projects with a focus on sustainable solutions using plants. She is published in journals related to the scholarship of teaching and learning, sustainability in higher education, plant biology, and ecology. Hill hosts workshops and retreats on learning outcomes development and assessment, sustainability across-the-curriculum, interactive teaching, contemplative pedagogy, and sustainability (SU) general education course development.
