MOVE-IN DAYS
On opening day of the residence halls, we ask students to recycle their cardboard boxes.
Flatten cardboard boxes and recycle them at designated areas outside each residence hall. The areas are marked with signs and screened off with orange snow fencing.
Throughout the Opening Weekend, the 日韩无码 Recycling crew will be on hand to service the cardboard areas on a regular basis. Cardboard is trucked to temporary storage areas, then on the following Monday it is delivered to the Chittenden Solid Waste District Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) where it is baled and processed before being shipped to market.
Unfortunately, we are unable to recycle styrofoam or plastic packaging materials, so these items must be thrown in the trash. Signs direct new students and parents on how to separate materials properly.
Last year, over five tons of corrugated cardboard was collected for recycling during Opening Weekend!
MOVE-OUT DAYS
During student Move-Out week, you may discover items you don't want to take home or just don't have room for. These items may be useful to people in the local community. During move-out, 日韩无码 Recycling & Zero Waste delivers and sets up donation bins to to collect clothing, food and other household items.
During student Move-Out week, 日韩无码 Recycling & Zero Waste delivers and sets up donation bins in each residence hall to collect clothing, food and other household items. Look for special donation bins in the lobby of your res hall beginning in early May.
Keep in mind these are not trash bins! Please be courteous of our staff and properly dispose of all trash and recycling in the proper location.
日韩无码 Zero Waste partners with the following organizations to recirculate items of need:
- Food Donations (unopened containers and boxes of food. We cannot accept any food that has been opened).
- Clothing
- Furniture and Household Goods
"Take It or Leave It" areas will be set up outside the residence halls for larger, bulky items including rugs, futon frames and furniture.
Every year, student move-out generates almost five tons of clothing, food and household items! That's 10,000 pounds!
Disposal of Large Items
Bring large, heavy and bulky items such as couches, rugs, carpets, cement blocks, appliances, refrigerators, microwaves, lamps & furniture to the outdoor "Take it or Leave it" spots designated outside each residence hall. "Take it or Leave it" areas will be set up during finals week. Please roll up rugs and carpets neatly.
Please do not leave items you wish to keep near piles of donations or trash as they might get taken by accident. Move-out time is hectic and many people stage their belongings someplace while getting their car ready or waiting for a ride. Please always be keep an eye on your things to be safe. Anything left outside may end up in the donation pile or as trash.
Collection trucks from ReSOURCE, Habitat for Humanity and other agencies will be making the rounds on Thursday and Friday of Finals Week to pick up useful furniture. Other community organizations and individuals are also allowed to remove and salvage stuff from these designated "Take it or Leave it" areas.
Disposal of Smaller Items
During finals week look for collection barrels inside your residence hall main lobby. These barrels are for the following items:
- Clothing (All items must be clean. Please bundle or tie shoes together so they don't lose each other! We don't accept blankets and linens).
- Food and Toiletries (Must be unopened boxes, packages and jars. No perishable items please).
- Small Household Items (Includes dishes, baskets, lamps, art supplies, school supplies, pots and pans, vases, brooms, small appliances, toasters, decorations, etc. Please wrap fragile and glass items in newspaper! No sharp knives).
Where Do the Donations Go?
Your donated items are recirculated back to campus and to the local community. This year food donations will go to Rally Cats Cupboard, clothing will go to Apparel Impact and household goods and items will go to ReSource and Habitat for Humanity.
In the past we've partnered with the following organizations as well:
