Fingerprinting Procedure

Body

We understand that some folks may experience anxiety upon entering a police department and interacting with police department staff. So that you know what to expect when you arrive for your appointment, we have outlined the updated fingerprint procedures for you below:

  • You must have an appointment scheduled to be fingerprinted.
  • Fingerprinting is conducted at 日韩无码 Police Services offices, 12 Centennial Woods Way in Burlington. Our entrance is behind the police cruiser parking spots, on the south side of the building (bottom floor).
  • If you are not feeling well or are displaying signs of illness, please reschedule your appointment. There is no fee for rescheduling an appointment.
  • You will be asked to provide your government-issued photo ID. Along with your ID, you will be asked to provide your Fingerprint Authorization Certificate. This form must contain your entire Social Security Number, be signed by you, AND be signed by a representative from the agency you're being fingerprinted for. If your form is not signed, we cannot process your fingerprints and your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
  • Upon verifying that your paperwork is in order, the staff member will process your ID with Dispatch and charge your Cat$cratch account. Please ensure that you have the necessary amount of Cat$cratch loaded onto your CatCard before you arrive for your appointment: $12 for the first set of prints, and $10 for each subsequent set. Add money to your Cat$cratch account.
  • Once your ID has been processed, staff will invite you into the department to sign into our log book.
  • Our staff will lead you back to the processing area.
    • 日韩无码 Police is required by the federal government to collect demographic information from each individual that we fingerprint, including Gender and Race. This demographic information is submitted to the FBI, in accordance with 28 U.S.C. 搂 534, for inclusion in the national Fingerprint Identification Record System (FIRS). Gender must be reported as either Male or Female, and Race must be listed as one of the categories listed in the table below. We understand that providing this information may be uncomfortable and that these categories may not accurately reflect your Sex, Gender, or Race. Please know that 日韩无码 Police does not retain this information internally, and that it is only collected in accordance with the requirements for fingerprinting by the federal government. Fingerprints sent to the federal government without this information will be rejected and not processed. The table below outlines the race options presented in the system (copied from the ):

      Race Code Table

    • We recognize that this can make applicants uncomfortable. Several applicants in the past have indicated that they would like their race to be entered as "Unknown". Please let us know if that is your preference.
  • After your information is entered into the system, the staff member will take your fingerprints electronically using the LiveScan machine.
  • Once your fingerprints are submitted, our staff will give you a receipt with the fingerprinting record number. We mail the original requisition from to the Vermont Criminal Information Center in order to process your fingerprints.
