BIO

I support the Fleming's staff to put their vision into action. That means ensuring everyone has the tools and resources they need to plan and execute on that vision. I work with suppliers such as artists and curators on featured exhibition planning and am also our team's HR Representative. I particularly enjoy doing activities to build our team such as recruitment of temporary staff and interns who contribute great work that is essential to our operations.

The thread that connects my professional experience is a dedication to mission through project administration. I began my career working for the State of Vermont and supporting the development of Adult Family Foster Care, which has helped hundreds of individuals transition back into community based living. As a business consultant I was able to support a wide array of corporate, governmental, and non-profit organizations on strategic planning initiatives across the country. I loved that each organization had a mission to do work that supported their communities and that my role was to help facilitate strengthening those connections with smart goals towards greater impact.

I have always loved art and began exploring different mediums in the last few years. I was selected to participated in Inclusive Arts Vermont's "Cycles" Exhibition as well as the Chronic Pain Project's Show in Portland Oregon, which is being picked up for an exhibition in Vancouver Washington this summer. It is this love of art combined with my professional experience in business administration that has brought me to the Fleming and I'm thrilled to be able to participate in the strategic development of the museum's initiatives.

Elizabeth Billings - Handprint Series
Elizabeth Billings (United States, b. 1959) Some Wild Geese, from Handprint Series 2002-2003. Natural-dyed ikat on cotton with embroidery. Gift of the artist 2006.13.1

I appreciate that the textiles in this series, may at first glance look simple, and convey a message from what we perceive as simpler times. However, when I picture Some Wild Geese Went Over Gathering Apples, what I picture in my mind is the video posted on my Instagram I took of some wild geese flying over while I picked apples at Champlain Orchards. We still appreciate and note the same things. These textiles also represent the hands and work of two women, generations apart, both working in industries that have often undervalued women contributors.

Some Wild Geese can be found in our West 2 gallery. Check out all our staff picks, highlighting works currently on view, by visiting each staff member's profile.
