Project Overview
Our platforms include a sensor to measure snow pack depth and optional sensors for snowpack, soil and air temperature. All sensors are mounted on a metal pole extending approximately 1.5 meters from the ground level with a short 0.3 meter arm extending over the ground surface. The platform includes a wireless modem to transmit data. The effort to develop and test this technology is supported by a NASA Space Grant Consortium research grant to Jeff Frolik (C. Skalka, J. Pontius, and B. Wemple, co-PIs). Wemple will take primary responsibility for field installation, on-going monitoring and reporting of data to the VMC on an annual basis.
