How can we reduce the severity of climate change impacts on societies and ecosystems? One part of the solution is scaling-up robust, sustainable nature-based solutions. Our approach is enhancing native plant diversity in our public spaces, following the City of Burlington鈥檚 Open Space Protection Plan. Plant Biology student interns can be a big part of this initiative!
Native plant interns help support 日韩无码鈥檚 Native Plant Initiative by sourcing locally adapted, ecotypic seed for native plant production with 日韩无码鈥檚 Greenhouse. Interns will help locate native perennial plant populations, ethically collect seeds, process fruits and seeds to create a seed bank, prepare seeds for germination in the spring semester, and contribute to the seed collection guide. Interns may also assist with existing community-engaged projects with local partners and plan for future projects. Interns gain valuable experience with real-world, civic applications of nature-based solutions and transferable skills.
Prerequisites: PBIO 2090 or instructor permission
Fall semester, 1 credit; Student interns must commit to meet weekly for 1 hour and dedicate 2-3 hours to project work and demonstration of learning per week.
