In modern health settings, health equity is a focus, and effective leadership is the catalyst for change. Organizational performance depends not only on the wise use of resources, but also on varied leadership styles, especially ethical leadership. Ethical leaders drive transformation with strategies that nurture innovation and enhance engagement – but how do they collaborate with people from diverse cultures, identities, and backgrounds?

ÈÕº«ÎÞÂë College of Nursing and Health Sciences Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Sefakor Komabu-Pomeyie has created a new course exploring the essentials of ethical leadership and inclusive change management: Ethical Leadership for Health Professions (HSCI 2990). Designed to equip current and future health professionals with the skills to be ethical leaders, the course prioritizes health equity and the value of diverse cultures in fostering organizational growth.

Through case studies, civic participation, and in-depth research on health disparities, students will uncover their unique leadership styles and develop skills to champion responsible decision-making and effective communication across cultures, including an understanding of the reasons inclusivity is a key to success, and how diverse cultures shape effective leadership. Course topics address the interplay of ethical decision-making and cultural sensitivity in navigating challenges, complemented by readings that explore critical links between effective leadership skills, work ethics, and organizational sustainability. Students complete the course by collaborating with family or their peers to tackle an ethical leadership challenge and present actionable solutions.

Ethical Leadership for Health Professions is designed for undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals alike - no prior health studies required. Dive in at your own pace with the flexible online format, accessible from anywhere.
