BIO

Jodie Mozdzer Gil has worked as a news reporter for the Hartford Courant, the Waterbury Republican American, and the Valley Independent Sentinel, covering various municipal governments, breaking news and education. In 2009, she helped launch the Valley Independent Sentinel, an online-only hyperlocal news site in the lower Naugatuck Valley.

She has served on the board of the Connecticut Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, including roles as president, past president and treasurer. Gil is currently a board member of the Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information.

She is the adviser to the SCSU SPJ chapter, and co-advises the student magazine, Crescent. Her research interests include freedom of information and digital journalism tools. In her free time, she writes for various online publications.
