Betty J. Cotter spent thirty years in journalism, as a reporter at the daily newspapers The Day and the Norwich Bulletin in Connecticut and as editor of the Narragansett Times and the South County Independent in Rhode Island. She was inducted into the R.I. Journalism Hall of Fame in 2021. A lecturer in journalism at the University of Rhode Island, she holds a BA in public affairs/journalism from Keene (N.H.) State College and an MFA in writing from Vermont College.
