Note: while many of these events are free and open to the public, tickets for Lane Series concerts must be purchased in advance.

It is a huge honor to bring this extraordinary group of jazz musicians to the Lane Series for Valentine鈥檚 Day. Artemis is an all-star quintet featuring pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, tenor saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda, and drummer Allison Miller. Don't miss this knockout performance!

We're excited to host Krin Gabbard, professor of classical literature, film studies, and literary theory. His talk will focus on the extraordinary music that Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn wrote for the 1960 film Paris Blues, a story about two American jazz musicians working in Paris. Gabbard is the author of Jammin鈥 at the Margins: Jazz and the American Cinema, Black Magic: White Hollywood and African American Culture, Hotter Than That: The Trumpet, Jazz, and American Culture, and Better Git It in Your Soul: An Interpretive Biography of Charles Mingus

We'll present three engaging panels--Uptown Remix: Harlem in Sound, Motion, and Memory; Jazz Ecosystems: Careers, Institutions, Places; and Rhythm Changes: Jazz Across the Disciplines -- featuring 日韩无码 scholars and esteemed visiting speakers. co-presented with the School of World Languages and Cultures 

The concert will feature swing and bebop standards along with jazz renditions of familiar songs in French, Spanish, and Italian. The program will also include several songs in Portuguese and English: 鈥淏razilian music to lift your spirit and soothe your soul.鈥 Bossamba is: Maggie MacDougall (vocals), Wayne Hawkins (piano), Lou Pappas (bass), and Mark Foster (percussion).
