Distinguished researcher, author, and health economist, Dr. Anaka Aiyar contributes a one-of-a-kind perspective to �պ�����’s CDAE students and faculty. Dr. Aiyar’s transdisciplinary approach sparks rich discissions and engagement among students seeking to address how food policy and politics impact nutrition and health, both within and outside the United States. 

Dr. Aiyar’s personal experiences drive her research. Having lived and worked in various parts of India, Dr. Aiyar interacted with local governments in evaluating public policies related to health and economic development issues. Now living and working in the United States, Dr.Aiyar can study and observe first-hand the differences in healthcare and food policies between both countries.  

Dr. Aiyar’s background paved the path for her research. Her research identifies determinants of food insecurity in global health systems and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of health insurance.  

Much of Dr. Aiyar's work involves analyzing the ways the food system interacts with the healthcare system. Studying the connections between both systems is vital for providing solutions and policies that improve food security and improve welfare for individuals and future generations. Her book, “Transforming Food Systems for a Rising India,” poses the question, “What does a nutrition-secure future for a developing country like India look like?” and reflects on how to bring more equitable growth that maximizes health and nutrition among vulnerable populations across the world.
